You'll recall we had a little conversation about 'Signs' - the Mel Gibson movie for those who may not know... in fact here's what you said: Minnow's thoughts
Being a man of my word I did not run and walked as I promised and as it goes I was sitting here really tired after returning from Dubai a couple of days ago (yes there is a post to come) and still not quite caught up with myself when low and behold 'Signs' was on Bravo. It had already started so I checked out Bravo+ and Wahoo!, I was able to catch it from the beginning. You've got to Love Cable!Anyway having fallen asleep during the boring bit, as the film slowly limbered up to the Alien invasion I awake again just as Matey boy (Rivers brother), was about to clart the alien with his home run winning bat - spilling the water on it and exposing it's weakness. Excited by seeing some real action, I stopped the movie and started it from where I had fallen asleep... Have I mentioned
I Love Sky+ (I'll explain some other time if you don't have that)... sufficed to say I watched the whole thing again, this time paying more attention and then Blam! I TOTALLY GOT WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO SAY WAY BACK IN MARCH.I guess the movie does work on a number of different levels and you have to see it for what it is to connect with that.
The little girl's visions were lost on me the first
time I saw this movie as was the business of coincidence and the movies
attempts to explain that there perhaps are no coincidences and that everything
happens for a reason. Also the complex issues surrounding religion and how it might be affected on those circumstances let alone under threat of alien invasion.
LMAO at the bit where the kids where wearing foil on
there heads to stop their thoughts being read and Gibson’s dialogue with the
kid when they were talking about the scientists. That was great.
So to summarise, in reflection much
as I don’t want to admit it, I enjoyed it much more this time around, given that I
was searching for the meaning in it, rather than seeing it as it was billed back
when it was first out - as a film looking at Crop Circles and Alien
invasion. This time it was Mel Gibson
doing what he does best.
Thanks for enlightening me once again.
P.s. – Now it’s time for you to catch up on 24 like your best friends little bro’s been saying. :-)
I received this on email and thought that I would share it...
A Good Black Man
Good Black Men are indeed all around us. We pass them
on the streets, in the malls and the halls at work.
Most we can't see because we don't know what a good
black man really looks like. He usually isn't
flashy
enough or rich enough to turn our heads He might not
wear a suit or drive a Lexus. He might not have a
"body like Tyson with a Denzel face." But, as you
mature, you realize it's better to find someone who's
got your back than someone who turns your head.
everything you say. He doesn't just tell you what you
want to hear and do the opposite. He doesn't declare
how sensitive, sweet, caring, sincere, yada yada he is
(he won't have to because it shows). He has his own
opinions and you may clash,
but he doesn't have to degrade you to prove he's right.
He even admits at times to being wrong,
especially if you are willing to do the same.
A good Black Man is not going to meet every item on
your checklist. He is human with frailties and faults
mixed in with all of his wonderful, strong attributes.
He needs your love and respect. He needs to feel that
you don't live to "catch" him doing something wrong so
you can declare, "Aha! I knew you were a dog!!"
A good Black Man doesn't necessarily give you a huge
birthday or Valentine's gift. He shows his love in the
ways that are comfortable to him. Don't judge him by
TV standards. No one is really living a fairy tale.
You'll miss out on your own fairy tale by buying into
the myth that our men are no good. It's just not
true.
Black Men, we salute you, and thank you for who
you are and all you've done.
Hi Y'all,
It's been ages since I have had anything worth sating it seems. Mostly because of my frustration at trying to find my place in the world having recently left my job as some of you know. No I am still not back in the race quite yet, and that's still frustrating, although many a wise person has encouraged my continued patience as there is often a much brighter light at the end of the tunnel - even if it seems like a dim beam at the moment...
But enough about that...
Today (and probably every day for a long time to come) is about rejoicing... No not because of the weather - which has been really quite nice lately nor because I have a new job (in a manner of speaking)... but because I am going to be a Father. No... I am not joining the ministry, but the other club... the Parent trap.
How mad is that... a Daddy for the first time.
Can you feel me.
Yeah baby.
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday dear Bozzy...
Happy Birthday to me
Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?
Absolutely!
You would have to be mad, crazy and bonkers to believe that in a Universe this large with so many stars in it that we are alone. I would go so far as to say that it would have to be a joke and fairly self centred to consider that we are alone.
I could go on, but you know where I am going with this so feel free to dispute if you like, but I know it's true, true, true.
Love it or hate it... American Idol is interesting, but right now it's all WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
The voting is Nuts. For those who have not seen it yet... you’re not missing anything amazing and I am sure you could live without it. But on the other hand if you are like me and have unfortunately seen it from the start you'll feel compelled to keep watchin.
In your ultimate dream house, what does your favorite room look like?
It's huge. You can hear the waterfall in the corner before you even enter the room. It's got a seat at the base of the plunge pool that allows you to sit at the base of the waterfall whenever you like. The coolest part is that the lighting changes colour of the surrounds is in sync with the mood music and it's all controlled by just thinking about it. It’s great because when you’re interested in television, gaming (if that's your thing) it all rises out of the floor on demand or slowing appears on one of the surfaces of the wall. You have choice dependant on where you are at the time. That's fantastic because when you’re doing Tai Chi or Yoga you don't want anything getting in the way.
Since music is a given the speakers are built into the paintings that are on the wall so that they are completely flat. My favorite is the huge Samurai above the fireplace, I love the way the red handle of the katana contrasts with the white garms he's wearing. The sound quality is something else and provides all the sound you need without the help of the half a dozen other canvass speakers around the room. And they look great.
The fact that the roof is glass gives fantastic light in the day and you can see the stars at night, particularly through the magnified lenses in the middle, which act as a telescope.
When your not messing with the waterfall and want to chill out, sit or lay down you couldn't ask for more comfortable room given the soft couch and the ergonomic resting platform that moulds to the body shape of whomever sits or decides to lay in it.
You don't need curtains since the glass is magnetised so that when you click your fingers a couple of times the glass instantly blacks so that you can’t see in... But you can still see out. It's crazy NASA business, but it works. This means that the wall of glass leading to the split level decking outside feels like an uninterrupted part of the room.
It's complete with all the technology I could want. Using the computer is easy because its wall mounted and voice activated so browsing the web is actually a pleasurable experience and feels more like learning in comfort than any form of stress, I couldn't wish for a nicer room.
I'd say it's probably my favorite room, but then the living room is a close second.
I went outside... the little devil came right up to my feet and stated trying to come inside... very curious.... read more
